Remember that old saying that flattery will get you no where? Well obviously the person who came up with this saying didn’t have getting dressed in mind.

The truth is wearing clothes that flatter your body will make a great first impression and paint you in a positive light to everyone you meet.

Lets be realistic every woman is not a size 4 and most aren’t even interested in being that small, but because each woman no matter how big or small has a figure problem that she would like to hide, the goal is to find a way to work around those problems until you can get rid of them all together. You can do a number of things that can enhance your body type accentuating the positive while down playing the negative.

If you have fabulous curves one of your goals should be to show off your waist, this doesn’t’ mean everything should be so tight that you can’t move or breath (remember classy not trashy). Your closet should be full of items that smoothly fall over your curves, shirts should be tailored at the waist and the pants should be slim cut. Don’t be afraid to show a little skin and/or cleavage, just know how and when to do it.

If your shoulders are a bit broad your #1 goal is to soften the look of your shoulders. Your closet should have plenty of V-neck tops, neutral color tops and make sure to steer clear of shoulder pads, puffy sleeves, and overly pronounced floral prints.

It’s tough when you’re a little short but you can fix that by focusing your attention on presenting an illusion of height by creating a vertical line. Always choose fabrics with a lot of movement and keep your heels nearby. Pick dresses with an empire waist and tops that are high because again you’re are trying to create height. Avoid at all cost baggy clothes, Capri pants, and horizontal prints.

Got a bit of a tummy, well try removing the focus from your tummy by creating a vertical line that focuses on your legs and face. Stock up on items like tunics, Cardigans, and if you have to have detailing on your shirt make sure vertical not horizontal. Avoid belted tops, cropped tops and pants with waist detailing.

No matter what “flaw” you feel your body has there is a way to camouflage it so that it doesn’t work against you. Fashion is meant to be a compliment to your body so that you look and feel your best. Pick your attire to flatter your body type so that you will always be at the top of the fashion hill.
